The water meter is the connection point between the city water system and your property. Any work in this area, whether it is a new connection, a relocation, or a repair, requires careful excavation and coordination with the local water authority.

Meter connection issues can show up in several ways. Maybe you are building an addition and need a new connection. Maybe the existing connection is old, corroded, or leaking. Maybe the city has flagged a problem during a routine inspection.

Whatever the situation, this is not a job for a general contractor or a plumber with a shovel. The meter area involves city infrastructure, and the work needs to be done correctly the first time. Improper work can lead to leaks, pressure problems, or city compliance issues.

Aspen Utilities handles water meter connections and repairs with proper excavation equipment and full city coordination. We work directly with the local water authority to make sure everything is done to code and passes inspection.

Who you are actually coordinating with depends on where you live. Along the Wasatch Front, culinary water is delivered by city departments in places like Bountiful, Orem, Provo, Lehi and Sandy, and by independent districts elsewhere: Granger-Hunter Improvement District in much of West Valley City, Kearns Improvement District, Taylorsville-Bennion Improvement District, Magna Water District, and Salt Lake City Public Utilities in parts of Holladay and Cottonwood Heights. Each one has its own connection standards, fee schedule, and inspection process. Knowing which desk your job goes to is half the work.

What affects the cost: the size of the service and the meter, the depth of the existing line, whether the meter box sits in a lawn or a driveway or a sidewalk, how far the new connection has to run, and the connection and impact fees your water provider charges. Those fees are set by the provider, not by us, and we tell you what they are up front rather than burying them in a total.

What the day looks like: we confirm the scope and pull the paperwork with your water provider, call in utility locates, excavate around the meter area carefully because there is often gas, power, and communications in the same corridor, complete the connection or repair to the provider's standard, and hold the trench open for inspection where required. Then we backfill in lifts, compact, set the box flush to grade, and restore the surface.

Most meter connection jobs are completed in one day. Complex relocations can take longer depending on your water provider's approval and inspection scheduling, which we coordinate for you.

Full permits and city coordination handled. You do not need to make a single call.

Your yard is left clean and restored. Our goal is to leave your property looking like we were never there.
