Provo Water & Sewer Line Specialists
Provo City Public Works runs both sides of the system — the Water Resources Division for culinary water and the same department for wastewater collection and treatment. Excavation permits and utility inspections go through the Engineering Division.
The 1970s were Provo's biggest single building decade, but the city's oldest housing, around Center Street and the Maeser neighborhood, goes back much further and still carries original-era pipe. Ground conditions change dramatically across town: gravelly alluvium on the east benches below Provo Canyon and BYU, and poorly drained silt and clay out toward Utah Lake, where high water tables are common in the western part of the city. Typical water line burial depth here is about 48 inches for freeze protection.
